SPIRIT IN STONE

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, a self taught artist who lives and works in Canmore Alberta Canada. Andrews work is influenced by the great wildlife which inhabit this area surrounded by the majestic landscape of the well known Rocky Mountains. Since arriving here in 1991 he has come to appreciate the beauty of nature. His love for carving stone has developed from the beauty held within the wilderness surrounding the Rocky Mountains. The stone in which he uses is mainly Alabaster and Brazilian Soapstone, he is as well experienced with other stones and continues his work in many diversified ways. Through the process of carving stone, Andrew captures the natural characteristics of wildlife through his pieces. He has had no formal training though through great discipline he has created some amazing pieces of fine art. The pure rawness of working with stone has given him the opportunity in expressing his love of the wilderness and all that it may captivate, through creativity.

Andrew's work is much appreciated in private collections around the world. His work can be viewed at the following public places within Banff Alberta. Jacquelinemari Boutique Art and Design, located in the Harmony Lane Historical Building. One is drawn to his work for its pure simplicity resonating a warmth and light heartedness. He is well known for his "spirit bears" and "sitting bears" which have become very popular. Though he has adopted his own personal interpretations of the abstract world, of the unexpected, and brings with it a delight in his own creation of whimsical style. Andrew has been carving stone for over ten years and continues to grow as an artist. If there is any interest in his work please contact the artist at the information below.
